New Yorkers generally flee the city in late July and August. Maybe it’s the humidity, or the reeking garbage, or the mosquitoes, or did we mention the humidity? But there’s at least one really good reason to stay: the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival.
This three-week festival features a surprising variety of music, dance and film, and it’s all free. It started on Sunday for the Pete Seeger Memorial concert and resumes on Tuesday.
Almost every day between now and August 10, there will be performances in the plazas, or at the David Rubenstein Atrium or at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, from Brazilian street dancing to Roberta Flack to Roseanne Cash to an experimental composition with 80 musicians.

It’s also the start of King Lear with John Lithgow. See our full list of local events here.
