PORSCHE BURSTS INTO FLAMES IN FRONT OF APPLE BANK

porsche fire

A Porsche caught fire on 73rd street in front of the Apple Bank at about 5 p.m. on Thursday. FDNY got the call at 5:09 and no one was reported injured, a spokesman told us. It’s not clear what caused the fire.

I’m no car guy, but isn’t that a Porsche 911? If so, the engine would be in the rear. So what exactly caught fire? Any car or fire guys/gals out there?

Check out some more photos below, and thanks to everyone who sent them in.

The gas tank is in the front. Great car. So sad.

That photo at the top by Alex was really well done. Excellent placement. You have a fire in the background of an expensive car in front of a bank with an older looking gentleman running in the foreground. Great example of photo journalism.

It seems oddly strange that the Porsche is the ONLY vehicle in front if the bank. Was it parked? Left idle? Was anyone in it? Was it traveling down Broadway? Did the smoke damage the outside of the bank? Hmmmm.

Normal cars aren’t allowed to park there. As you can see from the photo, that’s the right-turn lane, used by the 104 bus as well as car traffic.

However, since this was a Porsche, the rules for ordinary people don’t apply.
