9 FARM-SHARE CSAs WITH PICKUPS AROUND THE UPPER WEST SIDE

Just like last year, we’ve compiled an updated list of CSAs on the Upper West Side where local farmers drop off fresh fruits and vegetables. West Side Rag contributor Tessa Abrahams has compiled the list, with prices and pickup locations. Let us know in the comments if we’re missing anything.

Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs support local farms and bring fresh vegetables to cities. Members pay farmers for a share of their harvest and then pick the food up every week or two at a spot close to their home.


CSA at MSC

Pickup location: Manhattan School for Children – 154 West 93rd Street (between Amsterdam and Columbus)

Pickup time: Every Monday for full shares from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; every other week for half shares

Farm: Angel Family Farm in Goshen, NY

Season begins: June 9

Season length: 26 weeks

Cost: $550 for full shares, $225 for half shares

B’Nai Jeshurun Hazorim CSA

Pickup location: Pi B’nai Jeshurun, on 88th Street between Broadway & West End. In the event of rain, pick-up is inside the foyer.

Pickup time: Every Tuesday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; butter shares will be every other Tuesday throughout the season

Farm: Freebird Farm, Kriemhild Dairy (butter share only)

Season begins: June 10

Season length: 22 weeks vegetable share; 20-21 weeks fruit share; 11 weeks butter share

Cost: $510 for full vegetable share, $375 for partial vegetable share, $255 for half vegetable share; $95 for full egg share (one dozen eggs), $50 for half egg share; $160 for fruit share, $360 for double fruit share; $55 for full butter share, season is for 11 weeks

Roxbury CSA

Pickup location: Church of St. Paul and Andrew – 540 West End Avenue (at 86th Street)

Pickup time: Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Farm: Roxbury Farm in Kinderhook, NY

Season begins: June 12

Season length: 23 weeks

Cost: $642 for 23 weeks of vegetables; $80 for 20 weeks of fruit (starting July 3); $125 for a winter vegetable share (three deliveries of 30 pounds each); $145 for beef share; $140 for lamb share; $140 for pork share; $130 for chicken share

Cream of the Crop CSA (Formerly Chubby Bunny CSA)

Pickup location: Church of St. Paul and Andrew – 540 West End Avenue (at 86th Street)

Pickup time: Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Farm: Hepworth Farms in Milton, NY

Season begins: Early June, TBA

Season length: 24 weeks

Cost: $662.40 for large vegetable share; $438 for a small share

Central Park West CSA

Pickup location: St. Matthew/St. Timothy’s Church – 26 West 84th Street (between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue)

Pickup time: Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Farm: Vegetables from Angel Family Farm in Goshen, NY; fruits from Breezy Hill Orchard in Hudson Valley, NY

Season begins: June 11

Season length: 22 weeks

Cost: $558 for full vegetable share with optional $274 full fruit add-on, $294 for half vegetable share with optional $142 half fruit add-on

Morningside Heights CSA

Pickup location: 3009 Broadway (between 117th and 118th Streets), outside of Barnard Library on Barnard College’s campus

Pickup time: Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Farm: La Baraja Farm in Goshen, NY

Season begins: September 8

Season length: 10 weeks

Cost: $235


West Harlem CSA

Pickup time: Every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for full shares; every other week for half shares

Farm: Windflower Farm in Taconic Hill, NY

Season begins: June 10

Season length: 22 weeks

Cost: Sliding scale based on income; ranges from $533 to $140 for full vegetable share, $267 to $70 for half vegetable share; $691 to $181 for full vegetable and full fruit share, $347 to $181 for half vegetable and half fruit share

CSA at Ansche Chesed

Pickup location: UWS Manhattan Ansche Chesed – 251 West 100th Street (between Broadway and West End Avenue)

Pickup time: Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., every other Wednesday from 5:30p.m. – 7:30 p.m. for Biweekly (half) shares

Farm: The Garden of Eve in Riverhead, NY

Season begins: June 11

Season length: 24 weeks

Cost: $615, 12 for full vegetable share, $325.08 for half vegetable share; $275.04 for full fruit share, $150 for half fruit share; $155 for full flower share, $72 for half flower share; $36 for half egg share; $570 for Variety Pak (half shares of everything); $1,075.20 for Mega-Combo (full shares of everything), $580.08 for Biweekly combo.

Corbin Hill Farm Food Project

Pickup time: Wednesdays from 2:30p.m. – 6:30p.m.

Farm: Corbin Hill Road Farm, Schoharie County NY

Season begins: June 17

Season length: 23 Weeks

Cost: $414 for medium produce share; $621 for large produce share; $92 for dozen-egg share; $57.50 for half-dozen egg share; $1,354.70 for payment in full for everything (5% discount) or $62 for weekly payments.
