A fire on the 3rd floor of the building on West 72nd street that houses City Veterinary Care forced the evacuation of the vet’s office around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. The animals on the second floor were transferred to the first floor or taken out of the building entirely. FDNY was called at 1:44 p.m. and had the fire under control by 2:14.
Assembly member Linda Rosenthal, whose office is on the same block, took in some of the pets, including the cat pictured below. No one was reported injured.
Below is a photo of one of the cats Rosenthal took in during the fire:

Also on Tuesday, an Equinox gym on Amsterdam and 77th was evacuated around 11 a.m. for a fire. No one was injured, FDNY says.
What was the cause of the fire?
And thank you, Linda B. Rosenthal & her office for taking in the animals!
Ummm…what about the single mom and daughter who lived in that apt? They’ve lost almost everything.
@Nicole, you mean the people that left the candle burning that almost killed everyone in the building?
Seriously? Do you always go around accusing people of things when you have no clue what you’re talking about? The mother and child were thankfully not home at the time, and no candles were burning. Ask the fire marshal what/who caused the fire if you want the truth. If you live in that building, my advice to you is to insist the landlord keep the front door locked at all times.
