SUDDENLY-FAMOUS RV IS GONE FROM RIVERSIDE DRIVE

    December 27, 2013 | 4:44 PM
    in NEWS

    RV

After a flurry of media coverage, the RV Rabbi of Riverside Drive has apparently moved his vehicle off the avenue, and possibly out of the entire neighborhood. Gretchen Berger, who was one of the people complaining about the vehicle, told us that “the rust-bucket hath vanished and is nowhere in sight.”

Update: Commenters say the RV has lately been spotted on 81st and 95th and Riverside.

Rabbi Steve Blumberg had been parking the vehicle in a spot on Riverside between 73rd and 74th; in fact, he’d been parking it in the neighborhood for years, and had lived in the vehicle for part of that time. More recently, he’d been using it to pray and for friends to use as a crash-pad. After we wrote about the neighbors’ complaints, the story was picked up by the New York Post and other media outlets. The Post said that parking a mobile home on city streets for more than 24 hours is illegal — police had told neighbors for years that it was legal. Rabbi Blumberg has recently been staying in an apartment on 74th.

Anyway, we’ve been trying to get in touch with the rabbi to see how he’s doing. If you know him, have him email us (info at westsiderag dot com).

Rabbi, with all due respect, get an apartment, or get the hell out of here.

Its illegal what you are doing and yes you are blight and public nuisance.

The rules should apply to everyone.

This is becoming like “Where’s Waldo?” or something of Elvis sightings. It’s pretty funny. I think if he hasn’t hurt anyone, Who cares. There are a lot worse and better things to spend energy on. Just sayin’.

Agreed with Kaz. Just unbelievable this story has gained traction, mostly thanks to the self-righteous UWS’ers. This was seemingly an easy target. How about focus on the issues that need real attention. Gretchen, what will you grouse about now?

You cannot live in your car and RVs are not allowed to be to be parked nightly on the city streets.

    its the law.

That’s right!!! We pay lots of $$ to live here. If ya can’t afford to rent or buy here. Get out or work harder!! Don’t break the law. It’s that simple. Happy holidays!!

Why? He’s not hurting anyone. In fact there are people in different parts of the city that do the same thing and even the cops don’t bother them. A traffic cop had said the only time he enforces removal is if there were complaints of noise, use of public utilities, etc. Otherwise ” good luck to them”. So I think you should just get off your mighty high horse and let people be. Sheeesh!

apparently some people want a gated community. If he moves it once every 24 hours, he’s within the law.

personally i would rather have an entire community of people living in RVs than a community consisting of the hate-commenters above.
