West End Avenue was closed from 64th to 66th street on Monday morning after a water main broke and flooded the street. We received the following from the city’s Office of Emergency Management:

“Due to a water main break, DEP customers on West End Ave between West 64th St and West 66th St are without water service and the street is closed to vehicular traffic. Some customers may also be affected by a steam main shutdown. The M57 and M66 bus lines are being re-routed. Expect delays in the area.”

One source said the water was gushing out around 2 a.m.

Update: received this from Gale Brewer:

closed to vehicular traffic. Some customers may also be affected by a
steam main shutdown.

West 64th Street to West 66th Street. The crews are in the process of

service. Preschool of America located at 101 West End Avenue has no

NYCHA ESU confirms the Amsterdam Houses located at 40 Amsterdam Avenue
has not been affected by the water main break. There are no critical
care facilities or other sensitive locations affected by the shutdown
of the water main.

Con Edison Steam is in the process of restoring steam service to the
majority of the customers. Con Edison Electric and Gas continue to
monitor their infrastructure in the area.

NYCTA Representative is in the process of re-routing the M57 and M66
buses from the affected area.

NYPD remains on scene enforcing the initial street closures. NYPD
Traffic Control has been requested to remove approximately six
vehicles on West End Ave.”

Yea really.. They’ve been digging up that one spot and then re-covering it with steel plates about once a week for months. What gives?
