NASHWAN DELI, DOORMAN HELD UP AT GUNPOINT SUNDAY MORNING

File photo of police tape (not related to this particular crime).

At least one gunman held up the Nashwan Deli at 87th street and Amsterdam on Sunday morning around 6 a.m., and apparently held a gun to the head of a doorman who was in the store getting coffee.

The man walked into the store, pulled out the gun and demanded cash, an employee told us. The cashier handed over the money and no one was harmed. A police detective, who confirmed the robbery, did not have a description of his features or clothing.

A tipster wrote in: “Our doorman said he was held at gunpoint during a robbery at 6:30 am Sunday morning at a Deli by Amsterdam and 86th. He was getting coffee when two people jumped at him putting a gun to his head while robbing the deli.”

The deli employee said the deli hadn’t been robbed like that in 14 years.

This is depressing. The area from 86th Street north along Amsterdam and Broadway has gotten seedier over the last couple of years, with more vagrancy and generally shady characters milling about. I assume we will see more of this kind of thing. Too bad.

The city’s plan to install the new stainless steel benches in the area has attracted a few local ne’er-do-wells to the front of the Gristede’s on 84th and Columbus. These gents seem to enjoy getting, as the kids say, completely shithoused in the afternoon and stay there well into the evening. Well, maybe it’ll get cold soon.

While Bloomberg has been spending millions on stop and frisk he has decided that regular beat cops don’t matter. He has also decided that cleaning streets and sidewalks in public areas is just so passé and unnecessary. After all private limo riders don’t need to see it so it doesn’t get done. This is BLOOMBERG’S legacy, a city that services the really, really rich and lets the rest of us fend for themselves.

that is right blame Bloomberg for the vagrants.

and not the local politicians who encourage it.

Seriously, you may not love him – but, clearly he cares about the street and the environment.

also, if he did crack down on them, you and others would scream that he is harrassing the poor .

the guy cannot win in your eyes.

The owners of this deli deserve it. I was harassed by a homeless person begging in front of their store, and when I asked them to do something about it they wouldn’t say a word. Asshole scum who got the karma they deserve.
