A fire in an apartment on the 29th floor of the building at 180 West End Avenue (69th street) drew 20 units and 78 firefighters Monday night.
The fire was called in at 6:13 p.m., and was under control by 7:07, an FDNY spokesman told us. The apartment was apparently occupied at the time of the blaze, but no one was reported injured. “People came out of [the apartment] but no one was transported to the hospital,” the spokesman said. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
A neighbor we spoke to said he’s heard from people in the building that it was a kitchen fire.
Clarification: This post initially said the fire was on the 24th floor, based on information from the fire department. We have since heard from several residents that it was on the 29th floor.
Thanks to Mel Wymore for the photo above and to Jill for the photos below.
You have wrong floor: it was 29th.
Thanks. FDNY did say 24th, but we have since heard it was the 29th.
