NEW REC CENTER AND POOL ON 60TH ABOUT TO OPEN

The Gertrude Ederle Rec Center, also known as the 59th Street Rec center, also known as the 60th street rec center, will be open on June 17 after year and years and then months and months of delays. That means the Upper West Side will soon have a new relatively inexpensive pool and gym. The entrance is on 60th street between West End and Amsterdam Avenues.

It will cost $150 per year for adults to use the facility, and $25 for seniors. Youths get free access. We first wrote about the center here.

On June 17, the center will open at 11:30 a.m. for tours and at 1 p.m. for regular access. For the first week, working out will be free.

“See the Center for yourself.  The center features a brand new, state-of-the-art indoor pool, a new and improved gymnasium, a computer room, locker rooms, and activity rooms. Enjoy expanded fitness facilities, such as a cardio room and aerobic studio.”

FINALLY! FINALLY! FINALLY!!! We have waited 3 years…I lost count! It’s been insane waiting for this construction/renovation to finish. They should offer us additional months/year free membership….or rename the facility “Tamanny Hall Pool”.

$150. per year if you’re under 62…then only $25. if your 62yrs+. I called today …..they still don’t have a lap swim schedule to issue to the public. Why? Do I join, pay $150. and then find out there is no lap swiming at this location…because they are using the pool to train “life guards”. We’ll see.

Mel Wymore who is running for City Council – spearheaded this project for the west side. Just thought I would mention that – since he is the only one of the candidates for City Council with a real understanding of our community’s needs.

Well, in lieu of LAP SWIMMING perhaps they could offer LAP DANCING ??

That should increase the senior MALE membership.

🙂
