Riverside Park is hopping this summer, with various ways to laugh and get wet.
There is free kayaking available at the 72nd street pier on the weekends starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. Life vests are available, and the paddles are supposed to last 20 minutes if there’s a line. Get all the details and rules here.
Update: kayaking has been called off because of damage to the dock.
There’s also free theater at the Soldier’s and Sailor’s Monument on 89th street by the performaers from the Hudson Warehouse, which holds performances every summer. This year it’s the Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged). “Our tireless trio of actors, Chris Behan, Ian Harkins, and Nicholas Martin-Smith, will cavort and careen their way through all of Shakespeare’s 37 plays in 97 minutes, including tackling Hamlet in under one minute. This madcap take on the classics will surely delight.” The play starts at 6:30 and lasts about 90 minutes. No reservations needed: just come to the monument and sit on the steps. Thursday through Sunday until July 1. More here.
