HUGE POLICE RESPONSE TO BLOODY SCENE IN RIVERSIDE PARK

Dozens of police officers came out to Riverside Park this morning around 119th street after finding a bloody knife and several pools of blood by the tennis courts.

Helicopters were flying over the neighborhood around 8 a.m., and police streamed into the park. NYC Parks Advocates, a blog run by Geoffrey Croft, covered the crime, and reported that the blood came from a 54-year-old man’s suicide attempt. The man apparently checked himself into St. Luke’s Hospital. For more, check out NYC Parks Advocates. We’ll update if we learn more.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
