This week, there’s a very full lineup of unique events at Juilliard. Some famous conductors will be here and local groups perform music and dance pieces. Check out the events below!

Juilliard Opera presents Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen

Tuesday, April 30 at 8:00 PM

Thursday, May 2 at 8:00 PM

Peter Jay Sharp Theater (The Juilliard School – 155 W 65th Street)

Renowned conductor Anne Manson returns to Juilliard to lead Juilliard Opera, Juilliard Orchestra, and Juilliard Pre-College in The Cunning Little Vixen, directed by Emma Griffin. Inspired by a comic strip and premiered in 1924, Leos Janáček and librettist Rudolf Tesnohlìdek’s opera is an endearing and enlightened glance at the circle of life amongst a cast of woodland characters set in the fairy tale-esque Moravian forest. These performances will be sung in English.

Leonard Slatkin Conducts the Juilliard Orchestra

Saturday, May 4 at 8:00 PM

Alice Tully Hall (1941 Broadway)

Internationally acclaimed American conductor and Juilliard alum Leonard Slatkin leads the Juilliard Orchestra in a program featuring Richard Strauss’ exhilarating tone poem Don Quixote, based on the adventures of Cervantes’ famous idealist, with solos performed by cellist Nathan Chan and violist Andrew Gonzalez. The program finishes with Prokofiev’s heroic Symphony No. 5, which the composer described as “a hymn to free and happy Man, to his mighty powers, his pure and noble spirit”
