THE UPPER WEST SIDE CELEBRATES ISRAEL’S 65TH BIRTHDAY WITH SERIES OF EVENTS

The JCC is coordinating a celebration of Israel’s 65th anniversary that started yesterday and runs through April 16. There are numerous events around the neighborhood, most of them free. On April 16, violinist Miri Ben-Ari (above)will play a closing concert including various free events.

“The Upper West Side comes together to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day. New Yorkers will celebrate the rich and complex culture, history, and people of Israel at events throughout the Upper West Side sponsored by neighborhood synagogues, schools, and Jewish organizations. Convened by The JCC in Manhattan in collaboration with and funded by UJA-Federation of New York, our celebration begins on April 11 and culminates in a concert on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 pm, headlined by Grammy Award winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari.”

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
