We have heard from many of you that you’d like to see events posted earlier, so we’re going to try to alert people to special community events, as well as update our events calendar earlier in the week. Here are some of the events that we’ve heard about recently.
Target has sponsored two upcoming concerts (Target has sponsored numerous events on the UWS in the past, which is somewhat odd since there isn’t a Target store in the neighborhood). The concerts are also sponsored by Carnegie Hall, in association with Councilwoman Gale Brewer:
1. On Saturday at 4, an opera singer and piano player will put on a free opera performance at Advent Lutheran Church on 93rd. “Rising star Alison King, a protégée of the illustrious Marilyn Horne, is making her mark on the New York opera scene this year…You will be captivated by her voice which soars elegantly and decoratively among the highest of notes.” More here.
2. Next Wednesday at 7, the Gerard Edery Ensemble will play at Congregation Shearith Israel on 70th Street. “In collaboration with Carnegie Hall’s Neighborhood Concert Series, Congregation Shearith Israel presents the Gerard Edery Ensemble. Gerard is one of the world’s foremost experts in the wide-ranging music of the Sephardic Diaspora, including repertoire from the Judeo-Arab, Judeo-Spanish, Argentinian, Middle-Eastern, Northern European and Eastern European musical worlds.” More here.
3. Free flu shots: “This Friday, February 8th, Assembly Member O’Donnell will be sponsoring a second free Flu Shot Clinic in response to the epidemic that has hit New York this season. The free shots will be administered at the Goddard Riverside Senior Center at 593 Columbus Avenue, and will be available from 11 AM to 2 PM. Readers interested in reserving their free shot can call our office at 212-866-3970 or send an email to beirnea@assembly.state.ny.us.”
4. Support future stars at the city’s leading arts-focused high school: “La Guardia Arts High School is presenting the up and coming stars of the future in the school-wide annual talent show, Rising Stars, that introduced performers like Pia Toscano and Amanda Brown.
