News:
Upper West Sider Jon Braman found a ukulele in a garbage can and now uses it to play hip-hop songs. “The Upper West Side musician started copying Outkast and Biggie Smalls, teaching himself to rap by practicing their songs over and over again — sometimes 100 times — on the subway and while walking around.” He often walks around with his ukulele in the neighborhood. I’m not “trying to be weird,” he said. Uh-huh. (DNAinfo)
Mark Levine is running for the City Council seat being vacated by Robert Jackson, who represents a section of Upper West Side. He’s already been subject to some strange attacks: “Levine was attacked in a series of emails from a fringe rival, who referred to him as a “White/Jewish candidate” trying to take the Harlem and Upper West Side seat “like a thief in the night.” (Capital NY)
We hear that Cynthia Doty, a Democratic District leader, is also planning to run for City Council, but it’s not yet clear in what district (in part because of redistricting).
Research this, dad! “The 60-year-old son of sex research pioneer Dr. William H. Masters has admitted masturbating in Central Park.” (Washington Post)
