Thousands of new readers have checked out the Rag in the past week. Welcome! This week our coverage has clearly been anomalous because of the hurricane. On normal weekdays, we tend to run a morning bulletin, with community notices and links to relevant local stories from other sites. This is the first one we’ve done in a week.

News:
The Post finds generators sitting outside the Marathon tent in Central Park and calls it an “Abuse of Power.” This issue is all everyone is talking about today. (NY Post)

Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny accused of killing two children in their 75th Street apartment last week, is expected to be arraigned from her hospital bed. She’s now out of a coma after apparently attempting to kill herself. In the weeks before the murders, the family employing her had been upset about her job performance and let her know. “Marina and Kevin Krim were concerned about Ortega’s job performance in the month before the Oct. 25 murders and told the nanny they trusted like family that she had to improve or they would need to replace her, sources said.” (NY Post)

Two Canadian men allegedly tried to pull off a scam on the Upper West Side in which they used doctored cards to try fraudulently withdraw money from ATM’s, but eagle-eyed Officer Juan Rodriguez noticed something suspicious and arrested them. Clearly, it’s time to close the border with Canada. (NY Times)

Luxury apartments in other parts of the city don’t have power, which makes UWS addresses like 15 Central Park West all the more attractive to high-end buyers, the Observer argues. “The Upper West Side looks more appealing than ever after its admirable weathering of Sandy. (Observer)

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
