HALLOWEEN: BIG BLOCK PARTY, MUSEUM EVENTS CANCELLED; STILL WAYS TO CELEBRATE

Sandy has put a damper on Halloween this year, and the famous Village Halloween party has been called off. But there are still ways to celebrate — and get yourself and your stir-crazy kids out of the house.

The Museum of Natural History’s trick-or-treating event has been cancelled. And the West 69th Street Block Association has called off its famous Halloween block party, although the block association tells us “some buildings on W69St are decorated, and some residents will distribute candy to the little trick-or-treaters who come by at 6 pm this evening. Parents may bring their children to visit individual lobbies that are open.”

Rookie USA, the sporting goods store on 100th Street sends this: “Schools out! Come Trick-or-Treat with RookieUSA UWS, we will be hosting a costume contest at 4pm. Will you be a winner?” The event lasts until 5.

Sunburnt Calf on 79th will be holding a Halloween bash of the adult variety tonight. Come with or without a costume.

Robofun, an afterschool program at 2672 Broadway between 101st and 102nd is holding a special Halloween event today. The event is open to all families with kids who are 6 to 12 years old. Here’s the description:

We have decided to put together a free day tomorrow for the kids!

RoboFun will be open from 10am – 3pm tomorrow for Halloween Stay and Play! Come in Halloween Costume!
This is a FREE event! Drop your children off for 1 hour, 2 hours, or the whole day.
You may arrive at any point during the 5 hours.
We will order pizza for lunch or have your child bring a nut-free lunch or snack.
We will have the following activities:
Build a LEGO haunted house
Build a LEGO vehicle that can survive our haunted LEGO roller coaster
Build the largest LEGO gear train in RoboFun history.
Halloween Parade!!
Board/Card games
Scratch Video Games
Scary (but not too scary) Stories reading area
LEGO free-building
Halloween Movies for kids
The end of our Halloween Stay & Play will segue into a modified version of our Trick or Treat at RoboFun event. We will be handing out candy, pencils, and stickers from 3pm – 5pm.

We’ll add more events if we hear about any. Contact us if you know of anything.
