Colorful cars driving around the Upper West Side handing out special fortune cookies with gift cardsĀ inside. A carnival with giant teddy bears, a live DJ, popcorn and lemonade. Gift cards for the first 300 customers for $5, $25 or $250.
Expect all that and more this weekend as C. Wonder, a kind of preppy clothing and accessories store, opens its flagship on the second floor of the Time Warner Center. The smart cars will be driving around the neighborhood on Friday to hand out the fortune cookies.
C. Wonder is the brainchild of Chris Burch. The Times’ critical shopper Alexandra Jacobs liked the store’s china, but not its sportswear, which she called “a range of Anglo-Americana by now so thoroughly trampled over by Ralph Lauren, Ms. Spade, Ms. Burch et al., that it threatens to cross the line from classic to clichĆ©.”
The store is taking over part of the space left vacant by Borders (the other half will be an H&M). We first wrote about it here.
Check out the flyer below, and look out for those fortune cookie cars!
