Got a note from a reader looking for witnesses to her accident: “On Monday July 2nd at approximately 9am, a female cyclist was involved in a bike accident when she hit a pot-hole. Incident occurred at intersection of 97th & Riverside. Many awesome Upper West Siders stopped to help. Were you there as a witness? Please e-mail aGallo19@gmail.com!”
Volunteers needed for a bereavement support group on 91st Street.
News:
A spooked carriage horse named Oreo busted out of a line waiting for passengers around Columbus Circle, tossed the driver, slammed into a BMW wrecking the carriage, and dashed to 9th Avenue, where police shot him with a tranquilizer dart. Three people were injured, and the horse sustained a “minor scratch to his muzzle.” In the wake of the accident, Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal renewed her call to ban carriage horses. (NY Times)
The bike-share program will be delayed until the Spring. “Software problems” were blamed. Really? (Transportation Nation)
Rat Academy on Tuesday taught Upper West Siders (mostly supers and other building workers) some fun facts about “rodent management,” including that rats communicate by urinating. “To get rid of rats, we’ve got to get rid of the food,” said a health department worker. “The key for rat management for us is all garbage must be contained in a can with a tightfitting lid.” (NY Times)
Sugar & Plumm on 78th and Amsterdam opened yesterday, as we reported, and it’s got a candy store, bakery and free wi-fi, among other amenities. The restaurant also plans to serve cocktails to the stressed-out parents trying to handle their kids after they eat a bacon and waffle milkshake. (DNAinfo)
Ben Stiller just listed his 84th Street apartment for $400,00 less than he paid for it. Is the actor leaving the neighborhood where he grew up, following Conan O’Brien and Alec Baldwin to greener pastures? (Real Estalker)
The Rag as The New York Post! Headline: “Awful” Horse Accident.
Well, not quite…horse is OK, people doing fine. They’ll have something to talk about when they get home.
Re: Jerry’s comment (above) that the headline was too “New York Post-y” and that all were okay and it was basically a non-event.
But, Oreo (really cute horthee, see Saturday’s NY Times story)also “slammed into a BMW”! So what about the Beemer!!??
O.M.G. – let’s get our priorities straight here !!!
