The Body Shop closed about two weeks ago after about 30 years at the corner of 76th Street and Broadway. Already, signs for its replacement have gone up, and the smells emanating from the doors may be remarkably familiar. L’Occitane, the French skincare and bodycare chain (straight outta Provence!), will soon open a new store on the corner. And they’re hiring.
Notes one of our tipsters: “There already is a L’Occitaine on Broadway @ 83rd and Columbus @ 69th.  How can you possibly sell enough product to carry what has to be $15K to $20K rent in each location?”
Meanwhile, the last remnants of Body Shop were taken out to the curb:
Thanks to Ken and Phil for the photos.
Just when I thought it was safe to walk pass that storefront again!
Dear Folks:
This is crazy. Why was the Body Shop pushed out only to be replaced by another company that sells skincare and bath products?
Given there already are so many L’Occitaine in the neighborhood, this location would be better for their sister company O & Co which focuses on olive oil (and which would complement Broadway’s foodie row of Citarella, Fairway, etc.).
