A cab slammed into a golden retriever on West Drive near 74th Street on Tuesday and sped off. The dog was taken to Animal General, and a bystander said the animal was alert. It’s condition was unknown however. (Gothamist)
The story we broke two weeks ago about two homeless shelters the city suddenly installed on 95th Street, is now getting citywide attention, after a press conference by Scott Stringer and other officials lambasting the Department of homeless Services for failing to consult the community. A spokeswoman for DHS told the Post that the agency has “been actively communicating with elected officials from the beginning of this process.” They never got back to us on our questions. Community advocates led by Neighborhood in the Nineties are keeping up the pressure, handing out flyers at the 96th Street train station today.
The city hasn’t done enough to safeguard shelter housing for those with HIV/AIDS, say some advocates. A manager and resident at a 95th Street shelter in the Camden Hotel was killed a few weeks ago and another resident was charged with his murder. (DNAinfo)
