Score one for the little guys!
Harry’s Shoes, a staple on 83rd Street and Broadway for 37 years, is expanding later this year in a big way. Harry’s will lease the space formerly occupied by the adjacent Talbot’s (which downsized) and will be building the space out over the next few months. Once it opens after Labor Day, the store’s showroom will nearly triple in size, Harry’s VP Bill Rood told me today. The company has been around since 1931.
Harry’s, is a big success story, an actual neighborhood store that is growing as opposed to shrinking. If only Joe Goldberg (the famous “Mr. Gee” who died a few months ago) was around to see the expansion.
“We hope to be doing this for another 37 years,” Rood said.
