Photos of Central Park in December by Rebecca Baust. We’ll be posting our 10 best Upper West Side photos of 2011 later today and this awesome collection would have made it if we had seen it earlier.
December 30, 2011 Weather: Partly Cloudy, High of 49 Degrees.
Notices:
A slightly ridiculous rumor has been floating around about a polo match occurring on New Year’s day in Sheep Meadow. From our talks with the city and Central Park Conservancy, it sounds like it ain’t happening. But, aside from the horse poop, it was a beautiful dream.
However, there will be a Midnight Run on New Year’s Eve in Central Park. Our calendar has lots of other New Year’s Eve events for people who aren’t crazy or impervious to cold.
News:
The city has issued a request for proposals to open a new restaurant at Tavern on the Green, and they apparently sided with the Upper West Side Community Board: they’re asking for designs for a casual restaurant, where you can stop in after a run and plant your sweaty butt down in a chair. Clearly they didn’t listen to us, or the 65 readers in our poll (87%) who said that the restaurant should continue to serve overpriced food to unsuspecting well-dressed tourists. There has been a surge in apartment sales this year in Riverside South, the Trump and Extell buildings overlooking the river from 59th Street to 72nd Street. (Wall Street Journal)
Re: Tavern, I think there’s a way to do both. Food can still be priced high, and sweaty butts do come across state lines to visit here.
