Local businesses have been plagued by a recent string of robberies. Among the shops hit recently were Loehmann’s, where a thief tried to snatch a $480 leopard velour clutch; Sephora, where 3 men swept a counter of Chanel perfume into duffel bags; and Le Pain Quotidien on 72nd Street, where robbers threatened employees with guns and knives, stole their cell phones and demanded $3,000 in cash. The mystery buyer of Sandy Weill’s penthouse apartment at 15 Central Park West is reportedly paying the full asking price of $88 million. The previous most expensive apartment in New York history cost $48 million. (Observer)
