December 13, 2011 Weather: Sunny, High of 45 Degrees.

News:
Rats have spread with a vengeance in Riverside Park, and some Upper West Siders are blaming the parks department, because it no longer uses rat poison in the park. Hawk enthusiasts have criticized the parks department in the past after hawks died from ingesting rat poison. In any case, rats appear to be becoming a much bigger problem in and around Riverside Park. (DNAinfo)

City Opera workers could strike, bringing down the curtain on the company after it decided this year to leave  Lincoln Center. A mediator has been named as labor negotiations have gotten more tense. (NY Post and NY Times)

Style guru Tim Gunn of Project Runway moved to the Upper West Side about a year ago, and “he’s classed up the place just by being here.” (Mr. Beller’s Neighborhood)
