The last free-standing mansion on the Upper West Side is back on the market, at a 50% discount to its initial price. Yes, for a mere $15 million you can own the landmark 18-room pleasure palace known as the Schinasi House at 351 Riverside Drive near 107th Street.
It was previously listed for $31 million in 2006, then $30 million as of 2007, and then cut to $25 million in 2009.
The white marble structure with copper cresting was built in 1909 by Morris Schinasi, an immigrant who introduced Turkish tobacco to the United States. It is now owned by a law professor at Columbia named Hans Smit. Hat-tip to Curbed.
