Seeing Central Park in three dimensions is one of the main reasons people live on the Upper West Side. By 3-D, I mean in real life. But now there’s another way to see the park in 3-D if you aren’t close to the park, or if you’re just looking to kick back and watch something very cool. To celebrate the Central Park Conservancy’s 30th anniversary, the nonprofit projected a digital movie onto the arches at Bethesda Terrace. It’s called Seasons on the Terrace and it’s narrated by Kevin Bacon with music by Sting.
“The 3D projection transformation started with a heritage 3D laser scan of the interior and exterior of the Bethesda Terrace arches. Then content was shot, animated, and edited by Klip Collective, with the creative direction of mcgarrybowen, over four months and rendered into the 3D model for the event.. Seasons on the Terrace was presented on the evening of October 13, 2011 to the amazement of Park visitors and passers-by.”
