UPPER WEST SIDE PHOTOGRAPHER IS “ON THE HUNT FOR BEAUTIFUL CREATURES” AT FASHION WEEK

Jamie Beck, whose sumptuous romantic photography is featured on her site From Me To You, earned a special honor this year at New York Fashion Week. Jamie (right) was one of five fashion bloggers chosen to ride in the Mercedes Benz Fashion Ranger, which is traversing the city to find great street fashion.

What the hell is a fashion ranger? It’s a Mercedes that looks like a park ranger’s vehicle. It takes photographers around the city, seeking out the sexy, the strange, and the simply lovely. When beautiful creatures are found, the photographers swarm around them like paparazzi and the Fashion Ranger vehicle escorts them to their next destination. You can find updates on its possible locations at Facebook.com/MBFashionWeek and Twitter.com/MBFashionWeek.

People who win contests like “best gazelle like legs, the wildest shoes, Alpha editor sightings, an animal print rescue, and a hunt for the five fiercest handbags” get invited to runway shows at Fashion Week. It’s all kind of absurd, but it’s also (let’s face it) kind of great. Street fashion photography is finally getting its due with the virtual canonization of New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham. And the event allows photographers like Jamie to get great shots of New Yorkers in full bloom. Check out a few of the pictures Jamie gave us permission to post below (these were her first shots from Lincoln Center, so the people are probably models), and go to her site to really luxuriate in the beautiful-ness of it all. It may even inspire you to get out of those sweatpants!

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
