September 12, 2011 Weather: Partly Cloudy, High of 79 Degrees.

Notices:
Do you want to rub elbows with some of the hottest restaurateurs and chefs in the business? Both the soon-to-open Upper West Side Momofuku Milk Bar and Jean-Georges Restaurant are hiring.

Check out our list of events this week, which we intend to update more today and tomorrow.

News:
There were lots of heartfelt ceremonies throughout the city yesterday to commemorate 9/11. I went to a moving dance performance outside at Lincoln Center. For a different perspective on what 9/11 meant to New York, check out what the always interesting Jeremiah Moss had to say.

A Starbucks employee on 93rd Street said that Alec Baldwin acted like a jerk before having an outburst about one of the baristas there on twitter. After the Post wrote about it, Baldwin attacked the reporter on twitter. Then the Post sent someone to Baldwin’s building on 9/11. Then…oh, forget it. (Gothamist)

The owners of the historic Apthorp on 79th Street are mounting a fight to the sale of the mortgage. (Wall Street Journal)

Isabella Rossellini’s daughter Elettra Wiedemann has opened a pop-up restaurant called Goodness in Ed’s Chowder House during fashion week. (NY Times)

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
