News:
Fashion designer Marc Jacobs‘ bags are hot — so hot in fact that people are stealing them right off the shelves. A thief with high-end taste walked into the Barney’s Coop on Broadway and 76th Street yesterday and asked to look at some shoes; when the clerk left, the thief swiped four bags worth $1,652 off a display shelf. Hey, it’s hard to look good in a recession. (DNAinfo)
David McKie, the man who mowed down film editor Karen Schmeer in January 2010 as she was crossing Broadway at 90th Street, was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison. Mckie was fleeing the cops after stealing cold medicine from CVS. Schmeer, a highly regarded editor, worked on numerous movies, including Fog of War and Fast Cheap and Out of Control. A fellowship in her name has been created and details are at KarenSchmeer.com. (NY Post)
Gabriella Rowe, who runs the Mandell School, is planning to open a new for-profit pre-school in the Lincoln Square area to serve the huge influx of new families on the Upper West Side. But don’t expect the new school to be easy on your wallet; tuition at Mandell starts at $12,400. (NY Times)
