September 8, 2011 Weather: Thundershowers, High of 75 Degrees.

Notices:
Fashion’s Night Out is tonight, and there are tons of deals to be had throughout the city and the neighborhood, including 36 locations on the Upper West Side. Check out the list of participating stores here. Also lots of restaurants in the Lincoln Center area have deals.

The massive blue whale at the Natural History Museum is being cleaned for the next couple of days, and you can watch the process live  here.

It’s the first day of school for public schools. It’s all about image today, even for kindergartners: wear that special outfit!

News:
The Hudson River has been looking very red recently (it’s usually kind of green). Reporter Corey Kilgannon looked into it and learned that it’s Hurricane Irene’s fault. The flooding upstate, it turns out, forced tons of sediment into the river, and the red dirt has been flowing down towards the city for the past week or so. (NY Times)

A lawsuit against Madonna brought by a neighbor at her former Central Park West apartment can move forward, a judge said. The neighbor accused Madonna of being an awful neighbor by practicing thumping dance moves all the time. The Material Girl’s spokesman said she was a “wonderful neighbor”. (NY Daily News)
