‘Now Look at Me — I’m Drawing Cartoons for WSR!’

By Gary Martin

In these troubling times, I find that my friends — both real and imagined (and ALL much cooler than I am) — become singularly important to me. Not sure I’d ever go south of West 72nd Street without their encouragement and love.

Now look at me — I’m drawing cartoons for West Side Rag!

Watch for Gary’s illustrations on Sundays in the Rag and see them all here. For a broader range of Gary’s work, including animations and other motion graphics, please visit www.martoons.com

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate. All hail imaginary friends! They’re always there when you need them! (And eat much less when they come for dinner…)

Imaginary friends are great, especially when helping in the kitchen. Take up no space and always seem to agree with me.

Another good one, Gary!

I’m not even going to resort to abbreviation. Gary Martin made me LAUGH OUT LOUD with this illustration. I think my imaginary friends and his imaginary friends would get along so well to the point of going bowling together.

I feel the same way. Strangely enough imaginary friends keep me sane.
