Eight-hundred people came to Canaan Baptist Church on West 116th Street on Friday morning to celebrate the life of Aaron “Train” Brown, a beloved figure at the Amsterdam Houses, the New York City Housing Authority development where his parents grew up, and he coached basketball.

“He was loved by the folks at Amsterdam Houses,” said City Council Member Gale Brewer, who attended the celebration. “He coached and he paid for all the food for the players.”

There will be a balloon giveaway and release at 6:30 p.m. today in Aaron Brown’s honor, on the Amsterdam Basketball Courts, located at West 64th Street, between Amsterdam and West End Avenues.

Sounds like a lovely man and it’s wonderful that the community it recognizing him!

Didn’t realize anyone still did balloon releases tho given the potential impact on the environment and wildlife/marine animals. I wish there would’ve been another way to honor him.

What happened? How did he pass away? My condolences to his family, the children and teens he coached at Amsterdam.
