Photograph by Stephen Harmon who said, “This speaks to the fact that in July 2022 we are still deep in the Covid pandemic. These are tourists, all masked, on a bus looking at the Dakota, taking in the architecture and, perhaps, thinking about John Lennon.”

By Bob Tannenhauser

Good trend (getting lower); high numbers still. Way too easy to catch this latest version, even if you are vaxed and boosted. Stay safe out there.

The rates dropped probably because lots of people left the city for summer

Everyone I know who has gotten it recently tested with at home tests – including myself! So who knows what the numbers are. Fortunately with 4 vaccines and Paxlovid I was not as sick as I probably would have been in the past.

People are not wearing masks on the subway and buses. It’s one thing if they get themselves sick, but we all know that wearing a mask protects others more than it protects oneself. 🙄

I got Covid today according to the pharmacy that did the test. It won’t be reported of course.
It’s really bad. A sore throat you wouldn’t believe was possible to be so painful. Plus all the other aches and pains associated with it.
I’m not sure why I bothered to have the vacine and the booster …Why wouldn’t they have given us additional boosters?

I hope you feel better soon! The vaccines aren’t very effective at preventing you from getting these new variants but they ARE effective at keeping people out of the hospital and alive when they do get covid. UWSers have high vaccination rates; which is why even though our positive case rate is up quite a bit, our hospital and death rates are not.

And an updated booster tailored for the current variants might be available very soon:
