140 West 104th Street.

Two men were found dead in an apartment at 140 West 104th Street, on Monday night at around 9:30 p.m. Police were conducting a “wellness check,” when they discovered a man identified as Paul Horton, 65, with stab wounds to his hands and head. A 60-year-old man, whose identity has not yet been released, was also found “unconscious and unresponsive” at the scene. EMS was called and pronounced both men dead. The apartment is part of the Douglass Houses project. This is the second homicide in the precinct this year.

The Post reports that police believe the two men were brothers, and that the 60-year-old man stabbed Horton before hanging himself. “The two brothers have a history of domestic disputes, a source said. It was not clear what touched off the fatal stabbing.”

The NYPD issued the following report:

On Monday, October 7, 2019 at approximately 1929 hours, police officers assigned to PSA 6 were conducting a wellness check at 140 West 104th Street, #15D (Douglass Houses), within the confines of the 24th Precinct/PSA 6. Upon arrival, officers observed a 65-year-old-male with stab wounds to the hands and head inside the location. Officers also discovered a 60-year-old male unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced both males deceased. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation is ongoing.

The identity of each deceased is pending proper family notification.

These stories make me so sad. I walk through that neighborhood, look up into those windows and wonder. How I wish as a culture, as a city, we could offer more help, keep people from those terrible end crises.
