25CPW ART GALLERY CLOSES AS PHARMACY SET TO MOVE IN

25CPW, an art gallery on the ground floor of 25 Central Park West that drew several thought-provoking shows over the past few years, has closed to make way for a new pharmacy, a former gallery manager tells us. The art gallery’s lease ended in October.

The gallery at the corner of 62nd street was open for about four and a half years. It featured major thought-provoking exhibitions, including a show of the Alexia Foundation’s documentary photography from around the world and photojournalists’ war pictures.

Before 25CPW got there, residents in the building successfully fought plans to put a restaurant and nightclub in the space. It would have been run by Greg Hunt, the owner of Cafe Tallulah.

No word yet on what pharmacy will take its place — there’s already a pharmacy at the corner of 63rd and Central Park West on the other side of 25 Central Park West.

25CPW will be missed.

Just what the neighborhood does NOT need – another drug store! These drug stores must be a gold mine, there are so many of them, and all of them the same. There must be one
within easy walking distance of the building, so is another drug store, on CPW yet, really necessary??

This is a real shame. After being largely unused, this new vendor will put 2 pharmacies on each end of the same block, virtually guaranteeing that at least one of the spaces will end up vacant again in short order.

There used to be a supermarket in this space. It was a bit of a mess but it filled a need for the general area, one that is sorely missing once again.

I suppose it could be worse…for years I’ve been expecting another bank to open there…
