Juilliard presents another great group of events this week, including some special performances to honor the Royal Philharmonic.

Monica Huggett Leads Historical Performance Chamber Music | The String Quintet

Tuesday, September 24 at 8:00 PM, Paul Hall

Internationally-renowned Baroque violinist, Juilliard Historical Performance artistic advisor and artist-in-residence  Monica Huggett leads a program of select string quintets by Mozart and his colleague and friend, Czech composer
Myslivecek. Upon programming these works, Ms. Huggett remarked, “it is generally accepted that the combination of
two violins, two violas, and cello inspired Mozart to composer chamber music of paralleled beauty and depth…The string
quintet was a relatively rare combination at that time, but Myslivecek composed some lighthearted pieces in that genre
which may have sown the seed in Mozart’s imagination”

Nicholas McGegan Conducts the Juilliard Orchestra

Saturday, September 28 at 8:00 PM, Peter Jay Sharp Theater

Praised by the St. Louis Post Dispatch for “effortlessly communicating his delight in the music he leads,” British conductor Nicholas McGegan returns to lead the Juilliard Orchestra, celebrating the centenary of fellow countryman Benjamin Britten by crossing the pond musically with the folksong-inspired An American Overture (1941), and Edward Elgar’s brilliant Enigma Variations (1899), which the composer dedicated “to my friends pictured within.” The program also features Jacques Ibert’s warmly tonal and richly virtuosic Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 37 (1934)–a cornerstone of the 20th century flute repertoire and a widely-celebrated audience favorite.

Tickets $20 available 9/6 at the Juilliard Box Office, by calling CenterCharge (212) 721-6500, or at Juilliard.edu/fallorch
