The liquidation sale at Borders has begun, and the store on the second floor of the Time Warner Center Columbus Circle will be offering “up to 40% off” on all sorts of items, from books to puzzles and games. In fact, you can buy just about everything that can be ripped out of the walls: “[C]ustomers can also buy store fixtures such as lighting, shelving and racks, and, at select locations, café equipment.”
But as anyone who tried to buy cheap electronics at the Circuit City going-out-of-business sale knows, liquidation “sales” aren’t always a deal. In fact, liquidators tend to play on our exuberance to get cheap stuff and may even hike prices during a liquidation. As an ABC News investigation showed, prices were actually boosted during the liquidation sale at Linens n’ Things.
All sales during the liquidation are final. Buyer be warned.
Hat-tip to @newyorkology, which tweeted about the liquidation this morning.
