July 22, 2011 Weather: Sunny, High of 99 Degrees.

Notices:
Kevin Jacobs, a history teacher at the Beacon School is looking for Upper West Siders who lived here when San Juan Hill existed (the neighborhood that was torn down and replaced by Lincoln Center). Jacobs’ students want to interview the residents and learn about the neighborhood before “urban renewal”. He can be reached at kjacobs@beaconschool.org or 917-880-2030.

News:
The rumor mill is already churning about what will move into the 26,000 square foot space soon to be vacated by Borders in the Time Warner Center. The Real Deal talks to commercial realtors who expect an auction to be held in August or September to find a new tenant will attract lots of interest. And Racked chats with a “retail expert” who expects to see a big national chain, perhaps a CVS, move into the spot. Oh Lord.

Please avoid the raw sewage spilling into the Hudson River.

A suspected serial bank robber named Kirk Walker was just arrested after robbing the Wells Fargo on 85th Street on Monday with a note demanding “Money plz, $1,000,000,000.” When he was done, the robber asked for the note back. (Daily News)

The heat is causing the MTA to knock out power to subway countdown clocks on the 1, 2 and 3 lines. Don’t worry, the 1 will come…eventually. (NY1)

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
