MULTIPLE PEOPLE INJURED IN FIRE ON AMSTERDAM AVENUE

A fire broke out at 875 Amsterdam Avenue between 102nd and 103rd Street on Sunday night, and multiple people were carted away in stretchers, witnesses told us.

The fire started shortly before 7 p.m., according to traffic on the police scanner. It appears from the photos above and below that it started on the 8th floor of the building. Scanner traffic, however, indicated it started on the 7th.

FDNY was unavailable for comment.

Michael Di Lalla, who took the photo above, said he saw firefighters smash through the windows of the building. One firefighter and a civilian were taken away on stretchers. One person was apparently in respiratory distress and rescue workers performed CPR.

The Red Cross says it helped four people affected by the fire.

Fire trucks were still in the area four hours after the blaze began. Police officials were there after 11 p.m. We’ll let you know as we learn more.
