October 24, 2012 Weather: Showers, High of 60 Degrees.

Notices:
A town hall meeting featuring likely mayoral candidate Bill DeBlasio and police officials is scheduled for today at 6:30 p.m. at Symphony Space. Expect a discussion of the city’s controversial new homeless shelter on 95th Street and an uptick in crime in the 24th Precinct. That, and many other free and inexpensive events are on our calendar.

On Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm, check out a Fall E-waste Recycling Event with the Lower East Side Ecology Center at the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Amsterdam Avenue between W 96th & West 97th Streets.

Quick note: if you work for a local nonprofit and are looking for volunteers, let us know. We’re happy to spread the word.

News:
The new gifted & talented school entry test for 4-year-olds is so hard, parents can’t even do it. “When parents first see a sample Naglieri test, with its rotating triangles and checkered squares, ‘They typically panic.'” (DNAinfo)

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
