MORNING BULLETIN: TOP POLE DANCERS COME TO UWS, ‘FRASIER’ STAR SLOWLY TAKING OVER WEST END BUILDING

September 27, 2012 Weather: Partly Cloudy, High of 71 Degrees.

Notices:
Local events today include five free concerts, free “pilates for runners” and more. On the calendar.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters is looking for volunteers for this Saturday’s Race for the Kids in Riverside Park.

The U.S. pole dancing championships will take place this weekend at Symphony Space in the same location as a famous annual reading of James Joyce’s Ulysses. “The top 10 pole artists in the US will compete in front of a panel of judges who are professional aerialists, gymnasts, fitness experts and professional dancers.” says Symphony Space. While Symphony Space president Cynthia Elliott told DNAinfo “they’re not particularly aligned with our programming,” the organization wanted to rent out the space and “we think they’re terrific.” Now, if only they would read Ulysses while people pole dance. Then you’d get the high-brow and low-brow crowd. Tickets and more information here.

News:
David Hyde Pierce
(Niles on Frasier) and his husband have now bought three apartments in a West End Avenue building on 72nd Street. “Perhaps Mr. Pierce’s fictional rivalry with Fraiser co-star Kelsey Grammer has more than element of truth when it comes to New York real estate? After all, Mr. Grammer has been lounging in luxury in a $6.5 million four-bedroom at Jean Nouvel’s 100 11th Avenue.” (Observer via Curbed)

More on the crackdown on delivery bicyclists, which is expected to get more serious in January. “In January 2013,” DOT Inspector Ronald Amaya said, “if you’re not in compliance with all the rules and regulations – like your delivery men not having their vests, their helmet, ID cards, and the poster’s not up in your establishment, we will be issuing a fine, anywhere from $100 to $250.” (Transportation Nation)

An influx of 7-Elevens into New York (including what will soon be 4 on the Upper West Side) is imperiling more and more bodegas. (Wall Street Journal)

FYI: THe TV show was “Frasier” with an “s” and not a “z.”
