October 30th through November 1st
Trick-or-treat with Neighborhood Seniors: Saturday, October 31 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; 2330 Broadway at West 85th Street; free
The Apsley senior living community on Broadway near 85th Street is hosting an intergenerational exchange this Halloween: costumed kids can bring their spooky spirits, and the seniors will provide candy. Residents of this UWS assisted-living home will line the bistro on the building’s ground floor to give out candy. If your holiday agenda includes helping older neighbors remain engaged in the community, this could be for you!
Columbia Football v. Yale: Saturday, Oct. 31st at Noon; Robert Kraft Field at Wien Stadium; tickets here starting at $6.50, with half-price tickets for kids
Columbia Football’s biggest youth event of the season is this Saturday, featuring costumes and post-game trick-or-treating, in addition to a conference match-up. The Lions will face Ivy League rival Yale. The first 300 kids will receive a free Columbia-themed bag of candy.
Watch the NYC Marathon: Sunday, November 1st
Get out on the world-famous course Sunday, and enjoy the best day of the year in NYC! Read through our UWS Marathon Guide for tips, make a sign for the runners you’re supporting, and bring a cowbell and some water – your voice may get scratchy from shouting encouragement. I recommend Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem as a good spot for UWSers to spectate, but you can’t go wrong anywhere on the 26.2-mile course. Also this weekend, there’s a Pre-Race Pasta Party on Saturday at the AMNH, free post-race burgers at Shake Shack for marathon finishers, and lots of other marathon-themed goodies and activities. Add any you know about to the comments!
Gottesman Rink Opening Day Celebration: Sunday, November 1st from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; The Davis Center at the Harlem Meer in Central Park; free
Skating season is back in northern Central Park, far from the NYC Marathon course. Join a free group ice skating lesson at 11 a.m. (free skate rental included), or skate on your own to music provided by a DJ in the afternoon (skates will be available for rent). For pricing and more information about lessons, check here. The indoor gathering space at The Davis Center is always free and open to the public.

Will there be marathon fireworks the evening of October 30?
