Vanished Upper West Side Storefronts – Stephen Harmon Photos

Text and photographs by Stephen Harmon

I am both a contributor to and a reader of the West Side Rag. Recently, I noticed Gary Martin’s wonderful coartoon about how how WSR readers miss vanished establishments. I pulled together a series of photos, some you may have seen before, that I have taken over the years to remind us what was once here.

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate. While there are obviously dozens more that could have been added, the two most prominent (in my mind) are H&H Bagels and Babka, followed closely by the original Shakespeare’s Books and Loew’s 83rd Street movie theater.

Having lived here for 60+ years, I could make a list several pages long.

Anyone have a photo of Wings clothing on Broadway and 93/94? Used to buy quite a bit there in my youth

In the 1970s the Regency Theater played classic movies.
