Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate. Coming of age and coming out in the 1980s UWS, I well remember The Works, the Candle and Cahoots. I didn’t have the gumption for Les Hommes and I missed out on the Continental Baths. As my dad would marvel whenever I visited home, I must have been “Dancing Between the Raindrops!” (which is where I got the name for my autobiographical novel).
I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive community in my salad days…from retails spots like Charivari and Tommy Hilfiger on Columbus Avenue to eateries like Ernie’s , Cafe Lux and Ruskay’s.

Proud mom of four, of whom three are LGBTQ. I cheered myself hoarse today at the parade. I like to say I’m straight but not narrow. Love is love. 💕
