At the 6:00 February 17 meeting of the NYC Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of
America, Dr. Kathy Pichora-Fuller will discuss how difficulty hearing sound can result in difficulty understanding, thinking, remembering, and planning when communicating in complex everyday situations. This domino effect is often experienced as listening fatigue. She will explain what you can do to make listening easier and less tiring.

Kathy Pichora-Fuller is Professor Emerita (Psychology, University of Toronto), Adjunct
Professor (Gerontology, SFU), an audiologist, and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of
Health Sciences. For over three decades, she has translated her research on auditory and cognitive aging to address the rehabilitative needs of older adults with age-related hearing and cognitive impairments, with a focus on social engagement and healthy aging. She is the audiology expert for the Canadian Longitudinal Study of Aging and the Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging, and has contributed to the WHO World Report on Hearing and Report on Aging and Health, as well as the 2022 World Alzheimer Report. Dr. Pichora-Fuller is the recipient of the International Award of the American Academy of Audiology, and the Lifetime Achievement Award of Speech-Language and Audiology Canada. She leads a Voluntary Sector Knowledge Mobilization grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research that aims to promote brain health and healthy aging.
