Each week, the New York City Department of Transportation posts its Weekend Traffic Advisory, which provides information about ongoing street closures throughout New York City, including on the Upper West Side.
West Side Rag took a look through the most recent advisory, which shows multiple street closures to know about in our neighborhood over the coming weeks and months. These are not Open Streets, they are closures related to ongoing construction work and inspections.
Here are the Upper West Side closures to have on your radar.
West 62nd Street between Broadway and Columbus Avenue
- The street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays, through August 3, 2025, for a building inspection from a boom truck. A boom truck is a flatbed truck equipped with a crane.
West 71st Street between West End Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue
- The street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays until September 18, 2025, to facilitate an ongoing crane operation.
West 78th Street between Riverside Drive and West End Avenue
- The street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays through July 27 for a building inspection from a boom truck.
West 112th Street between Riverside Drive and Broadway
- The street will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through August 14, 2025, to facilitate a crane operation.

Please get rid of all the scaffolding on the Upper UWS.
And please get rid of all the cars!
OK, will do.
Thank you, this is extremely helpful! : )
So vehicles on Amsterdam needing to turn westbound will need to do so at 66th or 73rd during this time?
Aren’t there some school buses for the West End Day School?
And wondering what happens with McDonald’s delivery trucks?
“West 71st Street between West End Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue.

There still doing that ?
Columbus Avenue from 77th St. down.
Ridiculous!
There it is!
Did the rotunda end up closing to all traffic?
Last Sunday, to my surprise, the #7 bus detoured east to CPW at 81st Street although there was no Open Streets on Columbus in the 70s. I asked the driver why and he didn’t know — he was just following instructions. Apparently the BID and the MTA don’t communicate.
Do you know what if any fees the construction companies pay the city in order to get a street closed? By the day/ Hour?
Yes, and hefty one nowadays. And of course it transforms to every city dweller’s pocket, if you understand nyc fees.
What about W. 83rd St. between Amsterdam and Broadway? It closes since April. (opens in the evening).
I live on 112th and Riverside. Bank Street is without a doubt the worst neighbor I have ever had. Several years ago, they lied about permits they didn’t have. They closed off the street M-F, 7-4, and when someone who was disabled came home in a taxi, they refused to allow the taxi to drive up to the building’s entrance which was closer to Riverside than Bank Street. My building and several others exposed their fraud, and they backed down.
