There’s lots happening on the UWS during these last few days of June, so break out your yoga mat, your dancing shoes and/or your Pride gear and … let’s weekend!
June 27th to 29th, 2025
Take a Yoga Class in Central Park: Find dates, times and registration links — HERE; meet in front of Le Pain Quotidien inside Central Park on the north side of Sheep Meadow (near West 69th Street) 15 minutes before class; $24
My 22 year old and I did this last week and we gave it two thumbs up! Classes are an hour long and open to all levels, with options available for beginners and experts alike. Bring a mat or towel, or practice directly on the grass. This weekend, classes are offered at 10 a.m and noon, but during the week they take place at 6 p.m., too.
Boogie at Lincoln Center’s Silent Disco: Friday at 9 p.m. on Lincoln Center Plaza (near West 64th Street & Columbus Avenue); free; first-come, first-served with “fast track” registration available — HERE.
My friend Elizabeth introduced me to the free silent discos held every summer at Josie Robertson Plaza at Lincoln Center a few years ago and I don’t think I’ve missed a year since. They’re FUN. Put on your headphones (provided at the venue) and listen to tunes spun by “The First Ladies of Music” featuring DJ Reborn and DJ Monday Blue. Tonight they’ll be focused on rock & roll, soul, R&B and hip-hop by the likes of Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack and Missy Elliot. They’ll also pay tribute to Tina Turner and the 40th anniversary of her landmark album “Private Dancer.”
Stay Cool at the Movies with “In the Mood for Love”: Film at Lincoln Center; 165 and 144 W. 65th St.; showtimes and tickets — HERE.
Sofia Coppola chose this modern classic as one of her top 10 best films of the century in a poll published recently by The New York Times. See a 4k restoration close to home this weekend – you’ll have more than a dozen showtimes to choose from. It’ll be followed by a 9-minute coda that was seen previously only during the Cannes Film Festival in 2001.
Celebrate Pride at NYC’s Iconic March Downtown, plus Evensong at St. John the Divine: March begins at 11 a.m. Sunday at 26th Street and 5th Avenue, dispersing at 15th Street and 7th Avenue. Evensong is Sunday at 4 p.m. at 1047 Amsterdam Ave. at West 112th Street. Both events are free and open to all.
NYC’s Pride Parade started as a demonstration honoring the 1969 Stonewall Riots; it’s evolved into a joyful extravaganza focused on unity and activism that is now one of the biggest LGBTQIA+ celebrations in the world. The theme this year is “Rise Up: Pride in Protest.” Later in the day, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine will continue its celebrations of Pride with an Evensong service featuring LGBTQIA+ composers and the Cathedral Community Choir.
