No neighborhood in New York City has raised more money for Democratic mayoral candidates this cycle than the Upper West Side, according to The New York Times.

On Tuesday, the Times published a breakdown of the amount of money raised by residents in each New York City neighborhood, as well as the number of total donors in each nabe.

At the top of the list, the Upper West Side had both the most amount of money raised by any community in the five boroughs for the current Democratic mayoral candidates, and the most total donors.

On the Upper West Side, 2,915 residents have raised $701,290 for the following mayoral candidates: Zohran Mamdani, Brad Lander, Scott Stringer, Zellnor Myrie, Andrew Cuomo, Whitney Tilson, Jessica Ramos, Michael Blake, and Adrienne Adams.

Other candidates include Independents Eric Adams and Jim Walden, as well as Republican Curtis Sliwa.

Stringer had the most total donations from Upper West Side residents, while Lander raised the most money from the neighborhood, the Times reported.

Below is a partial breakdown of the Democratic mayoral candidates Upper West Siders are most supporting this cycle, according to the Times.

Most number of donations from UWS residents:

  1. Stringer: 722
  2. Mamdani: 574
  3. Lander: 549

Most total donations from UWS residents:

  1. Lander: $154,340
  2. Cuomo: $149,159
  3. Stringer: $120,590

Here are the top five New York City neighborhoods with the most money raised for Democratic mayoral candidates this cycle, according to The New York Times.

  • Upper West Side: $701,290
  • Upper East Side: $675,611
  • Park Slope: $433,916
  • Crown Heights: $134,481
  • Bedford-Stuyvesant and Midtown East in a tie: $129,000

In the city overall, Cuomo has raised the most money at $1.52 million, followed by Mamdani at $1.49 million and Lander at $1.37 million. Mamdani has received by far the most number of individual donations, though, as 19,007 people have contributed to his campaign, with the next most being for Lander at 6,319 total donors, according to the Times.

Election Day for the New York City primaries is on June 24.

The Upper West Side also raised the most money in New York City for former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris during their respective campaign runs during the 2024 Election.

Very helpful info, it is good to know how our neighbors feel.

I can’t understand voting for Mamdani; to me he will run the city to the ground. But hey, this is a free country, everyone has their priorities.

Cuomo was a terrible governor: many of his mayoral plans are in direct contradiction with what he did during his tenure as governor. He wants to solve homelessness by increasing psych beds and housing, but as governor, he oversaw the reduction in psych beds by 28% and cut $65 million in housing spending. He wants to spend money to make the subway more reliable, but he himself diverted hundreds of millions of dollars to flashy projects (remember the bridge light shows?) instead of spending money on much-needed, but less glamorous, maintenance.

He’s also wildly financially corrupt:

– He used state resources to write and promote his book, which earned him a $5 million book deal, than was ordered by an ethics commission to return the proceeds. He is still in appeal court trying to keep his money.

– He failed to disclose over $2.6 million in stock options from Nano Nuclear Energy, where he served on the advisory board. Huge ethical concerns here, especially when he’s running for mayor.

– After Hurricane Sandy, he used $140 million, including $40 million of federal disaster relief funds, for national TV ads promoting New York’s business environment. Who needs actual disaster relief when you can make TV ads?

Bottom line is I, and many others, would rather vote in someone brand new and take a chance than vote for someone who has a “Controversies” section on Wikipedia that’s nearly as long as their entire profile itself. I’m not voting for someone who is claiming to solve problems that they created.

This is a great article about it from Politico: https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/04/andrew-cuomo-fix-new-york-00209892?utm_source=chatgpt.com

I’m a huge Lander fan. He’s balanced, he cares about the city, he’s done real work, he speaks truth to power (ie Adams and Trump). Stringer is too problematic.

By a staggering coincidence, more low-information voters have heard of Andrew Cuomo than any other non-Adams candidate.
I don’t recall a coincidence in city politics quite this staggering since NYC’s wealthiest person won the mayorship early in the 21st Century.

You don’t recall? That’s odd for such a “high-information” individual.

Not so much, really. When I say I don’t recall such an event, you may safely take it to mean there wasn’t one.

Cuomo It’s not running on the Democrat ticket.
He’s running independently.

That’s not exactly correct. If he wins the democratic primary, he is going to run on both. In some ways announcing it now gives him both a backup-plan (should he lose the primary) and a potential boost (if he wins the primary) by picking up potential independent voters.

Some might say he does have a fiscal plan – one that the City won’t be able to afford….

An interesting tidbit from the cited NYT story: Curtis Sliwa has raised a whole $80,000, from 624 NYC donors and 910 elsewhere. In case anyone was wondering.

The UWS is a funny microcosm of NYC since there are rich folks and low-income folks in the same neighborhood.

More low-income people donated to Mamdani. More rich folks donated larger amounts to Cuomo and Lander. Most number of people in general donated to Stringer.

I would say the felon: felons often have unenviable records for damaging things, as we see from the current U.S. presidency.

Cuomo has cost NY State taxpayers MILLIONS in investigations & settlements (just settle’s another suit for $450k). NYC can’t afford him! Please leave him off ur ballot (Do NOT rank him!) or we will be paying for years to come!

Speaks volumes on the idiocy of UWS socialists who want to run the city further into the ground bc they just can’t get enough of their self righteous virtue signaling. God help NYCb If Upper West Sides love socialism so much, how about they move to a socialist country and give up all the luxuries and opportunities our country affords them?

True, moving to a real democracy would indeed offer substantial upgrade options:

Sure…you ever wonder why? You think these countries just provided free stuff out of blue and everyone is happy?

The countries you listed have solid education, respect towards one another and behave civilised overall. Till our society reaches this point which involves a lot of hard work and not just rides in free buses, Mamdani and other far left agenda is nothing but pandering to virtue signallers who get their info from Wikipedia but not history and real life experience.

Maybe let’s start with education and not housing homeless on subways and free buses as per Mamdani? And by education I don’t mean dispersing disadvantaged students throughout the school system. The whole school system needs to be revamped and the standards should be higher and not depend on a color of your skin. We can talk about free buses and city grocery stores after that.

Nostalgia, as well as the fact that moving is such a hassle. The last time, it required 700 boxes (mostly books).
Perhaps we could just Make America Livable Again?
Interestingly, I read only the other day that J. Michael Straczynski has moved just to the UK. Good for him!
And what’s keeping you here?

The numbers are very telling: Cuomo isn’t in the top three for individual donations, yet is a very close second for total donations. According to NY Times data, Cuomo has raised the most money (1.52 million) with 2,700 donors, whereas Mamdani has the most donors (19,000) and the second highest fundraising numbers (1.49 million).

If we take a raw average, the average amount contributed to Cuomo’s campaign is $562 and the average for Mamdani is $78. This means dramatically more people are financially supporting Mamdani, and their contributions are far more in line with what a middle class person could afford to contribute to a political candidate than Cuomo’s .

It’s fascinating (and a little troubling) that New York is even considering, let alone funding, someone like Cuomo—who has already cost the state $30 million in legal bills. As far as I’m concerned, it feels like Cuomo should be writing New York taxpayers a check, not the other way around.
