Police took multiple people into custody after gunfire hit a car Monday night in front of 65 West 92nd Street between Columbus and Central Park West, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.
A man was getting into his car at that location around 8:50 p.m. when multiple gun shots were fired at his vehicle, according to police. The man jumped into his car to avoid the bullets; he was not injured, according to police, but the car’s back window and a back door were broken.
A second car also had its passenger side window destroyed, NYPD added.
As of Tuesday morning, it is not clear why the shots were fired but police currently have the situation classified as reckless endangerment, which would mean that the man was not necessarily the target of the bullets.
Shortly after the Upper West Side shooting, five people were taken into custody in connection with the incident, however, there have been no charges as of Tuesday morning, the police spokesperson said.
Nobody was injured during the shooting, NYPD confirmed.
This is a developing story, please check back in for updates.

“It was worse 50 years ago.”
And that’s true. We’d be hearing about 2 or 3 incidents like this every day.
it was worse 50 years ago,….but what has that got to do with anything?
It should not be bad , ever!
i agree!
Look up. You should see the joke there.
Woosh
Reckless endangerment? Maybe we can just make it loitering.
Just Eddie Haskell and some of the gang blowin’ off a little steam
Reckless endangerment? If this report is accurate, sounds more like attempted murder.
“As of Tuesday morning, it is not clear why the shots were fired”
Skeet shooting practice hour, perhaps?
I live across the street. There were 3 shots fired. When looking out the window, we saw the car pull off and people run. It appeared targeted.
I heard three shots and thought it was fireworks – thought that was strange for March! I am on the back of a building on that block
WSR should follow every single one of these arrests through to arraignment, trial, plea, conviction. I say this because only 1 in 5 gun arrests under Bragg result in jail time.
Why don’t you compile the data and pitch an article?
Alvin Bragg is not going anywhere. Other DA’s are worse. Cy Vance was not any better.
Timely to point out, Alvin Bragg is predicted to win reelection in a landslide. Despite crime being notably worse than when he started, for some reason there are no viable challengers. Shame we are stuck with him for another 5 years – by the end we will have a decade of backwards progress.
Note all other progressive cities have long since abandoned their 2020 attorneys, but not NYC for some reason.
There is an alternative – Democrat Patrick Timmons is running to try to unseat Bragg in the primary. Vote on June 24,. In my opinion, Timmons is the better choice.
Whoever is running against Bragg in the primary will have my vote.
Timmins. Don’t write in (if it comes to that!) an invalid name.
“…long since abandoned their 2020 attorneys…”
Do you refer to terms of office?
No more Alvin. I’d rather vote for a sack of potatoes.
One block from Bragg’s Alma Mater, Trinity
Recreational gunfire.
Is shattering glass and punching holes in sheet metal even a crime? If so, I was making pasta last night and…
Readers should note that the only part of the car that provide actual cover from gun shots is the engine block. The doors, windows and other sheet metal is easily penetrated by even handgun rounds. Rifle rounds are even more powerful. The cabin of a vehicle may conceal your presence from a gunman but in general provides very little protection from bullets.
And they’ll probably be released the next day.
Elections have consequences.
I live on that block and heard the shots — three, as I recall. There was no mistaking them for firecrackers; very scary.
